Because our size is limited by our commitment to fund all of our Ph.D. students for at least five years, the graduate program at Minnesota has developed into a small, intense community of scholarship. With thirty-five faculty and an incoming class of just twelve each year, Minnesota students receive a level of individual attention that is rare among top political science departments. For years our Ph.D. program has had an equal number of female and male students, and from year to year roughly a quarter of our newly admitted students come from countries besides the United States.
